WhatsApp to let you share voice messages as Status.

By Ankita Garg: WhatsApp keeps testing a lot of features and a new one has now been spotted in the beta version of the app. The platform is testing a Voice Status update, which sounds pretty cool because WhatsApp currently lets you send voice messages to regular chats. The feature is pretty self-explanatory. It lets you share a voice note as status update. Here is everything we know about the latest update on WhatsApp.

WaBetaInfo has spotted the new feature in Android beta update, and eligible users will see it in the text status section of the app. The messaging app even lets you configure who all can check out your Voice Status update. People will also get control over their voice recordings as the app will also give the ability to discard a recording before making it public.

It is unknown whether the play pause process will be as seamless as the one WhatsApp offers for regular chats. The app automatically saves your voice messages even if you close WhatsApp while recording something and lets you continue recording the messaging where you left. It is unclear whether there will be an edit or replay option for the voice status feature. We should get more clarity on this when the feature becomes available for more people.

The new feature could be useful to those who are more vocal in life and like to share things with people. This would also help people promote their content or anything else in a better way. For example, if someone wants to share their song with contacts, then they can post a photo in the Status and even talk about it using the Voice Status feature.

However, there is a time restriction too on this feature. People will be able to record a voice note for only 30 seconds. Also, the voice notes shared via the Status section will automatically get deleted after 24 hours, similar to what happens with images or videos that you currently post as Status on WhatsApp. There will be an option to delete voice status even after uploading them.

The new feature is still under development and the feature is available for select Android beta testers for WhatsApp. The cited source has confirmed that the update will be coming to more WhatsApp users in the coming weeks. This suggests that the company might not take very long to release this feature for those who are using the stable version.
