Carefully timed to coincide with the brightest full moon night of the year, which you can enjoy right at the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, the Jodhpur Rajasthan International Folk Festival is arguably India’s most prominent roots music festival. Endorsed by HH Maharaja Gaj Singh of Marwar-Jodhpur and superstar Sir Mick Jagger, it has featured several stalwarts of the music industry including Lakha Khan, Shubha Mugdal and Manu Chao in its aim to to platform and unite folk, jazz, classical, world and reggae music. This year’s lineup includes qawwali from the Warsi Brothers, a performance by the much-loved Manganiyar community of Marwar, contemporary Indian band Bombay Brass, Khasi folk musician Amabel Susngi, European Sinti Gypsy group Tabor and more. The festival also offers a morning of storytelling, music and dance for children.

When: 6 to 10 October 2022
How to get there: There are direct flights to Jodhpur from most major Indian cities, as well as trains if you want to take the scenic route.
Price for donor passes: Day pass from Rs4,250 and full festival donor pass from Rs10,625. Some shows can also be accessed through the museum ticket priced at Rs100 for Indians and Rs 600 for foreign nationals. Details

One of India’s first rock music festivals, I Rock began nearly three decades ago and is ready to rock again For anyone whose wardrobe is full of or used to be full of black t-shirts with rock emblems this one is pure heaven. Founded by musician Farhad Wadia, the festival encapsulates stories and human emotions that have been part of hard rock music through skilful musicianship. Artists such as Pentagram and Parikrama have previously performed at the festival. The revival aims to bring fresh talent to the rock scene in India while retaining its traditional fervour. While the lineup is yet to be announced, be assured that it’s going to be loud, big and everything rock.
