WVNCC again offering free

low-impact aerobics class

WEIRTON — West Virginia Northern Community College will once again be offering a free low-impact aerobics class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the first-floor student room.

The class begins on Feb. 14 and ends on May 4, and enrollment is continuous through the class.

This is a low-impact class with an emphasis on cardiorespiratory endurance, strength improvement and flexibility. All exercise is done standing — there is no chair or floor work — usually to music that’s 128-140 beats per minute. Everyone is encouraged to exercise at his or her own level.

Registration can be completed online — search for WVNCC Community Education — or by paper on the first day of class for which attendees are encouraged to come early.

New Cumberland Hall of Fame event starts at 1 p.m. Sunday

NEW CUMBERLAND — The New Cumberland Hall of Fame, created by Rob Stanley as a Boy Scout project to earn his Eagle Scout award, is making plans for its 32nd-annual event to induct three new members.

The induction of these new members will be held at the New Cumberland Christian Church on Court Street on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m. The ceremony is open to the public. The beginning time in previous announcements was incorrect as provided.

Inductees for 2023 are: Living, Dorothy Hawkes, and deceased, Emily Fields. The Spirit of Scouting Award will be presented to Rob Littell.

Individuals wanting to nominate a New Cumberland resident to be considered for 2024 may do so by sending a letter in their own words as to why the person should be considered to Rick Greenwood, P.O. Box 185, New Cumberland., WV 26047.

Sweetheart Dinner and Dance

Feb. 11 at Steubenville Legion

STEUBENVILLE — The Ladies Auxiliary of the Steubenville American Legion Argonne Post 33 in Steubenville welcomes all American Legion members and their guests to the Sweetheart Dinner and Dance happening Feb. 11.

It will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Legion located at 808 N. Fifth St., Steubenville.

The cost is $10 per person with signup and payment needed by a reservation deadline of Feb. 6. For information, call (740) 282-9851.

The dinner will be served from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and include pasta, meatball, salad, bread and butter, fruits and dessert.

The Russ Buchanan Band will be playing a variety of country and rock music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The festivities will include a 50-50 drawing in addition to a gift card drawing and other special drawing.
