Attack on Titan is a popular anime series that has captured the hearts of fans around the world with its gripping storyline, intense action, and fascinating characters. The series continues to keep fans at the edge of their seats as they anticipate the final fates of its beloved characters.
One of the key elements of the series is the various families that play a central role in the plot. From the Jaegers to the Reisses, these powerful families hold significant influence in the world of Attack on Titan. Not only do they introduce the series’ most iconic characters, but they also have an impact on the intense progression of the story.
6 The Azumabito Clan

This is one of the lesser-known families in the anime, but they have just as rich a history as the other more notable families. The Azumabitos originated from the powerful Shogun clan of Hizuru and had close ties to the ruling Fritz family of Eldia. They emerged within the Walls of Paradis after one of the members of the Shogun clan was caught up with the migration of the Eldians to Paradis and could not return home to Hizuru.
Due to the Azumabito’s resistance to the mind-altering power of the Founding Titan and their disagreements with the powerful Fritz family, they suffered persecution and were hunted down within the Walls. During the events of Attack on Titan, Mikasa Ackermann is revealed to be the last remaining member of the Azumabito clan on Paradis Island.
5 The Tybur Family

The Tyburs are a family of Eldians who are loyal to the Marleyan government. They are known for their wealth and influence, and they hold significant power in the world of Attack on Titan. The Tybur family was instrumental in securing the success of Marley during the Great Titan War. Willy Tybur, the head of the family, played a central role in the events leading up to the Battle of Liberio, where he revealed the truth about the Eldian empire and its past atrocities.
The Tyburs are also known for their connection to the War Hammer Titan, a powerful Titan that can create weapons out of hardened material. This Titan is passed down through the Tybur family, making them one of the most feared families in the anime.
4 The Reisses

The Reiss family is a prominent family in Attack on Titan. They are known for their connection to the Titans and their ability to alter memories. The Reiss family originated from the Fritz family, who were the very first ruling family of Eldia. Historia Reiss, also known as Christa Lenz, is a member of this family and becomes a key player in the series. Her father, Rod Reiss, was the true ruler of the Walls, and his family’s ability to manipulate memories made them one of the most powerful families in the anime.
Historia, who was initially seen as weak and submissive, eventually became a powerful character in her own right. She rejected her family’s desire to use the power of the Titans to rule over others, instead choosing to help Eren and his friends fight against the Titans. Her compassion and strength make her a beloved character in the series.
3 The Ackermans

The Ackerman family is a mysterious family in Attack on Titan, known for their incredible strength and agility. Members of the family have been employed as bodyguards and soldiers for various rulers throughout history. However, their true nature and origin are shrouded in mystery.
Mikasa Ackerman, one of the main characters in the series, is a member of this family. Her strength and combat skills are unmatched, making her one of the most powerful characters in the anime. Her loyalty to Eren and her determination to protect him at all costs make her a fan-favorite character.
Another beloved Ackerman is Levi Ackerman. He is known to be one of the fiercest members of the Survey Corps. Levi serves as the captain of the Survey Corps’ Special Operations Squad, a group of elite soldiers who are tasked with undertaking dangerous missions outside the walls. He is known for his exceptional skills as a soldier, particularly his incredible speed and agility.
2 The Fritz Family

The Fritz family was a royal family that ruled over the land of Eldia at the time of the emergence of the first Titan, Ymir. The head of the family and then king of Eldia, Karl Fritz, married Ymir after her mysterious transformation into the world’s first Titan. He used her powers as a tool for the expansion of Eldia, and as a weapon against his biggest rival, the kingdom of Marley.
In order to keep the power of Ymir’s Founding Titan within the control of his bloodline, he forced his three daughters, Rose, Maria, and Sheena to feed on the corpse of their mother, Ymir. Thus, the power of the Titans remained with the Fritz family and they continued to use it to maintain their rule over the world.
Many decades after the death of Ymir, the 145th king of Eldia, also a member of the Fritz bloodline, decided to give up the power the Fritzs had over the world by erasing humanity’s memories and moving the people of Eldia to Paradis, the walled island where the protagonists of the anime reside. The Fritz family eventually changed their identities while on Paradis, still wielding great power but ruling while hidden under the new name of Reiss.
1 The Jaeger Family

The Jaeger family is arguably the most prominent and complex family in Attack on Titan. The family is known for producing some of the greatest soldiers in the history of the series, including Eren Jaeger and his father, Grisha Jaeger. Grisha once belonged to the Eldian Restorationists, an organization of Eldians that aimed to topple the oppressive Marleyan government. Grisha was eventually transformed into a Titan by Marleyan officials and sent to Paradis after his reckless actions caused the massacre of his family.
Eren Jaeger, the protagonist of the series, inherited the Attack Titan from his father, which granted him incredible strength and regeneration abilities. His Titan powers also give him the ability to control other Titans, making him an incredibly powerful force on the battlefield. The series is propelled by Eren’s desire to defend his friends and home from the Titans.
